There is quite a buzz about Green Burial in Michigan.  The idea is attractive to many but how to achieve it remains illusive.  This conference is your opportunity to think about questions such as:  Do you or a loved one want your body to go back to the earth naturally?  Would you like this choice to be available in your local cemetery?
“The natural burial movement is a significant manifestation of the baby boomer generation’s desire to express personal ethics and belief systems about sustainability in the types of burial and memorialization that they choose,” says Jack Goodnoe, conference presenter, landscape architect and cemetery planner.  “Accordingly, the philosophical and physical landscape of the American cemetery is changing.”
Other speakers include Barbara Lucas, producer and host of The Green Room on CTN and WEMU, who will discuss the impacts of conventional burial on the environment, and Michael Mitchell, licensed funeral director, who will demonstrate how to wrap a shroud and other practical aspects of natural burial.  Dress for the outdoors!
A panel of local cemetery workers and owners will be on hand, including Father Charles Morris, President of the Green Burial Council International.
As a bonus, A Will for the Woods, the award-winning green burial documentary, will be shown Friday evening, October 10, at 7:30 pm with discussion to follow.
